Sculptors Wanted - Sculpt Nature Sculpture Symposium
Job details
'Sculpt Nature' is a new sculpture symposium and competition which focuses on the use of natural materials and is aimed at artists interested in engaging in a conservation theme through their work. The symposium will run for a duration of 7 days, and will be hosted at the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary, an eco-sanctuary located only 10 minutes from Nelson CBD.
This initiative, led by the Brook Waimārama Sancuary, aims to provide an opportunity for the arts and culture sector to help to spread the message of ecosystem restoration to the wider community. This symposium will be an opportunity for a select number of sculptural artists to reflect on their relationship with nature and native flora and fauna while spending time creating a new sculptural work in an idylic setting.
Selected sculptors are expected to work onsite for the whole duration of the event (9am-5pm, 15th-22nd October) with voting and a public auction taking place at the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary Open Day on Sunday 23rd October. In addition to the auction, the following prizes will be made available for participants:
First Prize - $5000
Second Prize - $1000
People’s Choice Prize - $500
First Prize is aquisitional, meaning The Sanctuary Trust intends to exhibit the winning sculpture at The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary to better engage visitors with the Sanctuary and its ecosystems.
